The Lands Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR) posted resumption and acquisition notices on October 15, 2026, targeting private and government land in Tuen Mun. The statutory action is being taken to facilitate public housing developments and associated infrastructure works at San Hing Road and Hong Po Road (referred to as "the Developments").
Under the posted notices, the government will resume approximately 16.9 hectares of private land comprising 320 private lots. Additionally, the government will acquire approximately 143 square metres of government land currently occupied by eight graves and two urns.
To carry out the resumption and acquisition, three statutory provisions are being invoked:
1. Section 4 of the Lands Resumption Ordinance (Chapter 124);
2. Section 4 of the Land Acquisition (Possessory Title) Ordinance (Chapter 130); and
3. Section 14 of the Roads (Works, Use and Compensation) Ordinance (Chapter 370).
Pursuant to the statutory process, the land will officially revert to the Hong Kong SAR Government three months from the date of the affixing of the notices, establishing the reversion date as January 16, 2027.
The statutory action directly affects land owners, households, and business undertakings operating within or owning the designated private lots and sites. According to the Lands Department, the government is actively handling compensation and rehousing arrangements for all affected parties.
Upon completion, the public infrastructure and residential developments at San Hing Road and Hong Po Road are scheduled to deliver approximately 20,400 public housing units, contributing significantly to Hong Kong's public residential supply and urban development framework.
