The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Committee on Regional Trade Agreements (CRTA) held a meeting chaired by Ambassador Clara Manuela da Luz Delgado Jesus of Cabo Verde, who announced her departure upon returning to her capital. During the session, WTO members adopted the CRTA's annual report for 2026 and agreed to maintain a meeting frequency of three meetings per year, finalizing a structure evaluated during a two-year trial period. The Chair urged members to submit timely notifications regarding regional trade agreements (RTAs), highlighting that a significant number of agreements remain unnotified.
The Committee took note of eight specific notifications involving various jurisdictions:
1. The Israel-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (VIFTA);
2. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the United Arab Emirates;
3. The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of India;
4. The entry into force of the accession of the United Kingdom to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) for Mexico and Canada;
5. The Free Trade Agreement between the Pacific Alliance and Singapore (goods and services) - Entry into force for Chile, Peru, and Singapore;
6. The Free Trade Agreement between Hong Kong, China and Peru (goods and services);
7. The Free Trade Agreement between the EFTA States and Kosovo (goods and services); and
8. The Free Trade Agreement between the EFTA States and MERCOSUR (goods and services) - Entry into force for Iceland and Brazil.
In addition, the Committee considered factual presentations prepared by the WTO Secretariat regarding five RTAs among WTO members: the EU-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement (goods), the EU-Chile Interim Agreement on Trade (goods and services), the EFTA-Republic of Moldova FTA (goods and services), the Ukraine-Kazakhstan FTA (goods), and the Israel-Colombia FTA (goods and services). Factual presentations were also considered for three RTAs with non-members: agreements between the EU and the Faroe Islands (goods), the UK and the Faroe Islands (goods), and the UK and Kosovo (goods). The next CRTA meeting is scheduled for 9 March 2027.
