Operating under the theme for APEC China this year, "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together," Mr Yau addressed key sessions focusing on shared prosperity, technological advancement, and economic integration across the region.

During the discussions, Mr Yau highlighted the importance of practical cooperation among member economies to harness digital technologies in a people-centred and inclusive manner. Domestically, Hong Kong is strengthening its research capacity in frontier technologies and launching programmes to promote public awareness and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI). Hong Kong expressed its desire to share experiences and engage in mutual learning with other APEC member economies in these areas.

Addressing regional connectivity and shifts in the trade landscape, Mr Yau called on member economies to enhance connectivity across goods, services, capital, and people, guided by the Putrajaya Vision 2040 and the Aotearoa Plan of Action. He highlighted Hong Kong's active efforts to seek early accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), welcoming the establishment of the Accession Working Group for Hong Kong in September 2026 as an impetus to advance the FTAAP agenda.
